information, and recognise the need for appropriate protection and management
of any personal information that you share with us.
We have developed this policy so that you can understand the care with which we
intend to treat your personal information. Personal information is any
information about an identifiable individual. The policy is applicable to the
MYOB Group internet sites.
Cookies and other tracking technologies
We may place a "cookie" on a visitor's hard drive. Cookies are small pieces of
information that a Web site places on your computer's hard drive for tracking
website navigation. We use cookie information received by placing the cookie on
your hard drive to improve the efficiency of customer service on the site. We
also use cookies to enhance our site content by compiling aggregate information
about what specific sections and pages users visit.
Most browsers have an option which permits users to refuse a cookie. A user can
refuse a cookie and still fully navigate our website.
Direct collection of personal information
We collect personal information when such information is specifically and
knowingly provided from users during (i) contest, survey or site registration
promotions and (ii) subscription registration for sites or services requiring
such registration information. We may use this information for marketing and
promotional purposes. We may occasionally inform our users of special deals,
new products, and other third party product and service offers that we believe
our users will find interesting (however, we will not provide your personal
information to that third party).
Choice
You will be given the option to choose whether you would like to receive such
mailing upon registration. You can also request, at any time, that your
information not be used for such purposes by sending an email request to us at
the address
webcustomer.au@myob.com.
We may from time to time allow sponsors the opportunity to alert users to
special offers. User lists will not be made available to advertisers or
sponsors. You will have the option to refuse such information alerts at the
time of registration.
Security
Wherever your personal information may be held within the MYOB Group, we intend
to take reasonable and appropriate steps to protect this personal information
from unauthorised access or disclosure.
However, it is important to understand that no security system can be
guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot give an absolute assurance that
personal information will be secure at all times.
Also, if a user knowingly provides personal information such as a user name or
email address in a chat or bulletin board area, that user should be aware that
the information provided can be collected and used by others in that area.

We will make a sincere effort to respond in a timely manner to a users request
to correct inaccuracies in the personal information held by us. To request
correction of such inaccuracies, you may send updates and corrections to
webcustomer@myob.com
.
Security Statement
At MYOB we strictly protect the security of your personal and business
information. We protect all stored data from loss, misuse, unauthorised access
or disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
Data Encryption
When you access your MYOB Web Office using Netscape Navigator, or Microsoft
Internet Explorer versions 4.0 or higher, Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology
protects sensitive information using both server authentication and data
encryption. You will notice a small padlock appears in the status bar of your
browser to indicate you are using a secure connection (or the URL is https:// -
the 's' indicates a secure connection). Double-clicking the icon will give you
details about the person or company providing the page you are viewing. These
details have been verified by a third party called a Certification Authority
(CA). The MYOB Web Office uses Thawte Digital Certificate Services to provide
you assurance that your data is in safe hands.
What is SSL?
SSL is a protocol designed to provide secure communications on the Internet.
SSL does three things:
-
SSL authenticates that the server you've connected to is the one it purports to
be, and not a third party trying to intercept the transaction.
-
SSL creates a secure communication channel by encrypting all communication
between you and the server.
-
SSL conducts a cryptographic word count to ensure data integrity between the
server and the user. If a message is not received in its entirety, it is
rejected and another copy of the message is sent automatically.
What level of security does this web site support and how strong is it?
This website supports 128-bit encryption for all personal information, while
most standard browsers only support 40-bit encryption. Browsers which support
128-bit encryption are approximately 300,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times
stronger than 40-bit encryption. Under normal circumstances, the estimated time
required to crack a 128 bit scrambled message is 1019 years. MYOB strongly
recommends the use of a 128-bit enabled browser.
How do I find out what level of encryption my browser supports?
In Netscape, a solid (unbroken) key, in the bottom left-hand corner, indicates
that the current page has been served over SSL. To find out the encryption
level select View > Page Info. If encryption level is less than 128-bit an
upgrade is strongly recommended.
In Microsoft Internet Explorer, you can tell what level of encryption your
secure link is using by clicking on File, then on Properties. Under the General
tab, if the Connection property is less than 128-bit encryption (high), then an
upgrade is strongly recommended.

Security and Monitoring
MYOB Web Office services are hosted in a secure server environment that uses a
firewall and other advanced technology to prevent interference or access from
outside intruders. The purpose of a firewall is to ensure only authorised
traffic is allowed to pass to the MYOB Web Office systems - all other traffic
from the Internet is rejected. Firewalls also create logs of network traffic
that allow for centralised auditing and security monitoring. Ensuring the
security of your accounting transactions is an ongoing process at MYOB.
Data Backup
For added security, your data is backed up regularly. The backup tapes are
removed from our office by a security company to a secure facility.
User Name and Password
The MYOB Web Office uses unique user names (usually email address) and
passwords that must be entered each time you log on. These safeguards help
prevent unauthorised access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the appropriate
use of data.
Don't Share your password
Your password is your key to your MYOB Web Office and you should take some
simple precautions:
Never reveal your password to anyone.
Never write it down where anyone can find it or work out what it is.
Change your password often, and be sure that you do not use common words that
can be found in a dictionary, or numbers in a series.
Treat your user name and password with more care than you use for your ATM or
credit card PIN. With the PIN, you need to present the card. Here you only have
the password.
